Kent Grams

Varsity Coach - ktgrams@dcsdk12.org

Coach Grams graduated from Thunder Ridge High School in 2002. In his high school career he was a four-year letterman in basketball, a three-year letterman in football, won the 5A State Basketball Championship in 2002, won the 4A State Fooball Championship in 2001, was selected as the 5A Basketball Tournament MVP, and was selected to the All-State basketball game. After high school, Coach Grams earned a fooball scholarship to Fort Lewis College and made the basketball team as a walk-on. He played football for two years before having to hang up his cleats because of medical reasons. Coach Grams played basketball for three years and as a senior he was selected by his basketball teammates as the Team MVP. 

His basketball coaching career started as a student assistant at Fort Lewis College and then he was hired as an Elementary PE teacher at Trailblazer in the Douglas County School District. During his years as an elementary PE teacher he also coached freshman football and sophomore basketball for 9 years at Thunder Ridge. He is beginning his 10th year as the head coach at Rock Canyon High School and once again, believes this will be a very special year.

Wes Chapman

Coach Chapman has been coaching 4 years for the Rock Canyon Basketball program. He has more than 10 years of coaching experience, most of which came at Douglas County and Castle View High schools. In all of his experiences, Coach Chapman has tried to coach the game the way it should be played and teach his players personal accountability and responsibility. He believes that through the game of basketball, players come face to face with adversity, giving them a unique opportunity to learn how to work as a team, persevere, and give their best regardless of the outcome of the game. These skills translate into the world around them, setting them up for greater success in the future.

Nick Mahan

Varsity Assistant Coach -nrmahan@dcsdk12.org

Coach Mahan played basketball at Douglas County High School. White there he played under respected coaches Steve Barnett and Jeff Riley. His senior year he received The Senior Award. This award was voted on by underclassman for the senior who best exhibited senior leadership. 

Coach Mayhan has been coaching for 12 years. He started his coaching career at Douglas County HS where he was the head coach of the freshman team for one year, then promoted to Varsity Assistant for 2 more years before joining Coach Grams in building a program. This will be his 5th year working in the Significant Support Needs Special Education Program at RCHS. 

The game of basketball has always been an important facet in Coach Mahan's life. He really enjoys the relationships that he gets to make with each and every player and as a person. One of his favorite quotes is "Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are." -John Wooden

Gabe Ware

Junior Varsity Coach - gware@dcsdk12.org

Gabe is returning for his 5th year coaching with Rock Canyon basketball. He graduated from Hitchcock County HS in Nebraska where he lettered in football and basketball is junior and senior year. Gabe still holds records for points in a game (42) and 3 pointers in a single game (10). He went on to play basketball at McCook Community College in Nebraska for 2 years. Then he attended the University of Northern Colorado where he earned  his degree in coaching. Gave currently works in the Douglas County High School SPED department and coaches for the Colorado Collective club basketball program in the summer.

Payton Holloway

Freshman Coack

Coach Holloway played basketball at Broomfield  High School.  While there he was a 3 year letterman  and was a part of the final 4 team in 2013. His senior year he received The Epitome Award. This award was voted on by all players in the program for the player who best exhibited leadership, integrity and servanthood.  

Coach Holloway has been coaching for 4 years. He started his coaching career at Broomfield HS where he was the head coach of the Freshman team for one year, Sophomore team for 2 years and a Varsity Assistant for 1 more year.  This is his 1st year teaching.   He is teaching Freshman Earth Environmental Science at Rock Canyon.
